If you're like most parents in their late thirties and forties and its been more than 20 years since you've done any math, this book is an invaluable resource when you child asks you for help with his or her homework. For example, do you remember how to solve a problem with negative exponents? If not, get out the book and look up "Exponent" under "E," and there will be a simple explanation.
