This is a rare and wonderful little book, beautifully designed with wonderful photographs and illustrations and a lyrical text. It's like reading happy poetry that takes you back to your own childhood. It's all about the simple ways kids can make themselves happy. But it's truly a book for all ages. I'm going to give it to everybody I know who's graduating this June. And if you want to thank your own parents for the special care they gave you as a child, I'd think this would make a perfect little Mother's or Father's Day gift. Just seeing the book in the bookstore refreshed me. It's colors are as bright as jellybeans; but the message inside richly provokes and rewards. I bought two books to give to friends whose babies were recently christened. If you want to read an uplifting little book about the surprises and delights every child is capable of enjoying, retro joys that are still very much accessible, this is the book for you.

This book is so superior to any other 'gift' type book it puts them all to shame. It's intelligent and beautifully designed. I wanted to give this book to my own parents to thank them for my mostly happy childhood, but they're not around anymore, so I'll save it for my own children. The book celebrates families and how they simultaneously drive you crazy and give you love and sanctuary, which is true. Without being sappy, it's kind of the opposite of the American Beauty film, in that the people in the book are flawed but normally so, just like all of us. We made our brothers and sisters cry and tormented them one minute and then were their heroes and saviors the next. Great surprise, this book.
