This book's cover has [seemingly] nothing to do with what is inside. There are no other colored pencil illustrations. All steps are in black and white, beginning with an explanitory drawing of the basic shapes a horse has. There are only a few pages on definition/detail of heads, ears, fetlocks, pasterns and hooves. The rest of the book is dedicated to certain breeds. On one page the author has the finished work, showing the rough drawing and cleaned up line art on the other page for each breed. There are the Arabian, Morgan, Clydesdale, Quarter Horse, Shetland Pony, American Saddlebred and others. As far as instructing someone on how to create a horse on their own, this book is lacking. However, it does help someone with some artistic talent already to see how a horse is drawn and shaded. By trying to copy the drawings in this book, I was able to get an understanding for drawing horses. It really got me interested in drawing horses, and in horses in general.
