Even You Can Draw Cartoons!

There is so much in this book of 32 pages that will help you learn to develop the art of drawing cartoons. There are shapes, lines, patterns, textures, 3-dimensional forms, light and shadows, space and composition, and color. There are many books out on the shelves that teach the art of cartooning, but this one is geared toward the young child who is most interested in finding her or his own style of drawing characters.....after all, isn't that what life is all about.....characters? Just look around, you are amongst characters and you are one of them; you are the main character. This is not one of those "copy in several steps books" where you are to replicate what someone else has put before you. Sure there are some basics to adding interest and character to your work. You are actually developing characters in your drawings, and you can give them emotions, features, expressions, and body language, by the simple act of putting a line or two in the right place. You are shown some sketching techniques to illustrate movement, and to show dimension. Adding light and shadow to your work will transform your character into an idea that will help tell a story. Also, the use of different pencils and primary and secondary colors will "give life" to your character, and mixing the colors will create new possibilities. Lastly, it is important for you to have a place, a corner to draw, a table, maybe even a cubicle which you call your "studio". A brief index in the back gives you assistance in working on a particular way of drawing cartoons. So, get your studio ready, and be a cartoonist, but go slow!
