I first read this book by Helmut Thielicke a time ago when I was struggling heavily with the inability to be able to prove my christian faith to my own satisfaction.Researching modern apologetics books on the subject brought be little more satisfaction.I guess its another one of those paradoxes in life that I came across this book in an old second hand bookstore in panama while travelling through, for even to find a good english book wouldve been surprising. Im grateful to the author for this heart warming book that helped me realise that the questions we ask arent new,and that reason, although a pointer towards truth, simply cannot carry you in commitment into a truthful relationship in life.Yep,one of the unavoidable joys in life is the risk we have to face, for faith of some kind is compulsory for every person. I welcomed the writer's honesty and the depth with which he examines the simple stories in the Bible where everyday people meet Jesus and are changed. Its an eye-opener and a wealth of hidden lessons often overlooked. It brought back to heart a consciousness of the person of Jesus Ive regretfully been encouraged to ignore. It also helped me to begin to look a little closer in my Bible-reading.I gave the book a 5 because it achieved its purpose for me and I felt it would be an injustice to remain silent. I would encourage anyone struggling with the apparent contradiction between proof and faith to read it.Actually, I would encourage anyone searching for meaning in life to read it.
