HOW TO BE FAMOUS: OUR GUIDE TO LOOKING THE PART, PLAYING THE PRESS AND BECOMING A TABLOID FIXTURE is a fine survey by a 'power couple' whose wild life has made headlines for years. Fans of the two as well as those who hate them will find this an intriguing ten-step plan covering their rise to fame. Highly recommended for any general-interest lending library.

Loved It!

I think this book was amazing. I have always liked Heidi, and I always hated Spencer:P So I picked up this book, not sure that I would like it. It is now one of my favorite books, among Twilight. This book has a great story to it. I have not always been a great reader, but this book encouraged me to read more and more books. Now I don't want to stop!

Good book....

I began reading How to be Famous Tuesday afternoon and finished it Tuesday evening. The book was a page turner that pulled no punches and made no apologies for honestly and explicitly.

Heidi and Spencer lay out their thoughts on fame and show business.

The first thing to note is that this book is not a long book. It's not a particularly big book in size either. It's a little bigger than a trade paperback book, except it's hardcover. It also has plenty of pictures alongside its texts. This book contains numerous photos with funny subtexts scattered throughout. It also has a few pages in the inside that feature full-colored images of Heidi and Spencer. I definitely see this as making a good gift for Heidi and Spencer fans. As followers of Heidi and Spencer(or Speidi) would know, these two celebrities love coming out with outrageous stuff, whether its amateurish-like music videos or acting out in public with contrived situations, just to gain the attention of the paparazzi and press. This book follows in that tradition. This book is meant to be very tongue-in-cheek. They essentially write the book in a way that makes it look like they're trying to teach on the subject of "how to be famous," when in actuality it's mostly an excuse for them to talk about themselves! They don't reveal any new information, as far as their personal lives go, they mostly dwell on their experience with being in the Hollywood limelight. Again, it's all light-hearted, and written with a casual tone and a hint of sarcasm, sparsely settled into it. In the end, it's less a treatise on how a normal person can be famous, and more a revelation of the things they've learned about show business in their own facetious and humorous way. As far as criticisms go, I just would've wanted it to be longer. You could probably find out more about Heidi and Speidi by reading through their twitter posts than through this. Also, some of the pictures featured are pictures that you've seen before on magazines and websites. I would've at least wanted to have seen more pictures exclusive to the book itself. Nevertheless, if you're a fan of Heidi Montag or Spencer Pratt then it means you enjoy seeing them weave their tapestry of crazy antics. In that case, this book accomplishes its goal of writing a fun, but not-so-serious book and fans who enjoy following Speidi's acts should be satisfied. So, if you do intend on buying this book, here is my suggestion. You see, you could pretty much read the book in like an hour or so, and in much less time if you rush it. However, you shouldn't rush this book, 'cause you want to make the experience last as long as possible. You should view the individual pictures as paintings, with meanings interlaced into them. You should try to turn this into an artistic escape and that way perhaps you can find new insight into the workings of the universe and life, by taking in the mysteries within the photographs and following the wisdoms of Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt. Or maybe you despise them and just want to see how low they can go. The book works kind of on both sides.
