Great funny "journal" to read while you are breast feeding!

Not too sure why some moms didn't find this book hilarious and maybe some of us have lost the sense of humor with motherhood or just take things too seriously? Maybe it just isn't funny to some but for the most part...this book is a hoot! Her writing style is fantastic and she allows you to follow her as if you were right there. I understood all of her issues and could easily relate to many of her concerns and comments. Enjoy this book. Its a great one for nursing moms ....

If there was one books I could have read while pregnant the first time, THIS IS IT

I purchased this book while I was nursing and seeming to have lots of difficult times with myself, thinking that I would read it immidiately, but kept putting it off. Well, after I lost my milk supply and was feeling very depressed over the whole thing, I thought maybe I would read the book anyways. By the end, I was in tears. This girl really told it exactly the way that it was, and even though I had nursed before, and had done my research, things happen that are unexpected. And I thought that reading this book was just like talking to another mother friend, with her suggesting certain things and just the lightheartedness. It ALSO had a disclaimer that I thought was pretty cool, about how every mother and child are different and how it is not intended for medical advice. It is more of an "understanding, hey you're not the only one and things will get better" kind of book. Very similar to the "Girlfriends guide to pregnancy" Another of my favorites.

FINALLY!

Finally! A book that really lets you know what being a new breastfeeding mother is all about. I could not stop laughing. Lisa Wood Shapiro is not afraid to tell it like it REALLY is. I felt like she was reading my mind. I am so glad she didn't candy coat her experience or pretend that she had a huge epiphany at the end. Just like childbirth, the emotions we feel as new mothers are sometimes messy. This book felt to me like it was real. Is that so much to ask for nowadays?

How this Book Saved My Life

What an extraordinary book! Believe me, I've looked at the available literature and every other book about breastfeeding is so clinical - which give the complete wrong impression to new moms (that feel completely alone to begin with) looking to connect to anything genuine - especially since breastfeeding is such an personal and beautiful way to connect with your baby. Lisa Wood Shapiro presents the struggles and triumphs of nursing in such a real way. The entire time I was reading I kept thinking: it's so refreshing to read a book that's goal is to illustrate what actually happens to new moms. I felt like I had an older sister helping me along as a breastfed my son (who is thriving and still nursing away at 11 months now by the way) - a sister who kept encouraging me to keep going in the middle of the night when things seem hopeless and it would be so easy to reach for formula. And Lisa is so funny too. I was crying, I was laughing so hard during the 'Piper' scene (read it and you'll know what I'm talking about). My husband thought I was nuts - reading something called 'How My Breasts Saved the World' and laughing till it hurt. Highly recommended for first time moms especially.

A must-have for new and expecting moms!

I read this book while nursing my second child and found it so in touch with all the emotions- up and down- of new (and not so new) moms. I laughed and I cried as I relived those sleepless, challenging and wonderful early days with my first. This book is a must-read for any expecting mom planning on nursing and btdt (been there, done that) moms will greatly enjoy experiencing that first year again through Lisa Wood Shapiro's eyes. I now find myself acting like the author when she discovered the secret of nursing-- I have started approaching pregnant strangers and new moms and telling them to read this book!
