I felt that the author utilizes an excessively large number of pages to set up the argument/purpose for writing this book. I’m not sure that I would have been interested in finishing the book, had I not known of the author beforehand. Of the “meat” of the work, I think he is convincing for pretty much whatever he chooses to tackle. There are a couple of times where he momentarily injects a reference to related Christian practices/beliefs and quickly brushes them off, and I think he would have been better to avoid them (and/or provide reference to another work of his).
Overall I enjoyed the book/subject matter, however expect that another editor (or author) could condense it. Being “long winded” required the author to repeat himself often, which seemed to make matters worse for those who read the book in a small number of sittings.
