good introduction to measurement

I am a Kindergarten teacher, and I used this book with my class when we studied measurement. It was a great way to show the students why it is necessary to have standard units of measure. They really liked it.

Helpful book!

I am a kindergarten teacher. I read this book to my students to introduce to them how to compare standard and nonstandard units of measurement as well as to highlight the need for uniform measuring tools. How Big is a Foot? clearly illustrates the difference between the length of a person's foot and a foot long ruler. After reading this book we made tracings of our own feet and cut out foot long foot shapes to make an outline of our own beds that were 4 ft x 6 ft. That was a graphic illustration of the concepts covered in this book - the children loved it! I highly recommend How Big is a Foot? to primary teachers!

three kids-six feet

I read the book to my three younger cousins. They really enjoyed it and thought it was funny. After reading them the story I showed them how big a foot is, then we made an outline of each of thier foot and I showed them how many of their feet made a real foot. This book was a great intro to teaching kids about measurement.

Great for introducing the need for a standard of measurement

This story is an excellent source to use with children who are beginning to learn about measurement. It enables them to see that there is a need for a standard unit of measure in the world. It is an amusing tale that will start children thinking without them knowing it!
