An account of a back-to-the-land experiment told with charm and honesty. Re-published with a new introduction by the author. This description may be from another edition of this product.
For anyone who has wanted to "get away from it all" this a book that will both make you drool and think twice. I have read an earlier edition of this work (from the 1970s), and cannot comment on any additions that the author has made, as I can imagine that she would have to add some notes to make dated references more comprehensible.Anyway, this book chronicles the trials and experiences of the author and her husband after they abandoned "modern" life and headed for the hills of North Wales. Their friends, of course, thought they were nuts, but they kept at it, and after years of setbacks, finally began to eek out a living. West's writing is smooth and vibrant and she really manages to capture the essence of the failures and successes that they endured. The book is a real page turner, and is one of those that one wishes was at least twice or three-times as long.
