What if for the new mutants

The House of M was my return to the comic world. I have liked the series so far and have read the new mutants in the past. I should say long past as the Hellions weren't around. The Scarlett Witch goes insane and becomes a threat to existence with her reality bending powers. The X-Men and the Avengers meet to decide her fate. Quicksilver pleads to their father Magneto and the world burns white. The world is remade where Mutants are the dominate species and the regular people are on the path too extinction. It's awards day for the academy. The time to recognize the outstanding students. Too bad a Human Resistance group(terrorists to the mutants)decides to attack the proceedings to draw attention to something going on in Japan. Things look bad until SHIELDS training group, the Hellions, show up to save the day. The students and the hellions don't exactly like each other. The students are training to be leaders a world where sapians and mutants co-exist. The Hellions are training to police the sapians. Even with these differences there is a little fraternizing. As they look into the reasons for the attack, the groups head to Japan for different reasons. There they discover Project Genesis. Claimed to be a dirty secret by the sapians. Claimed to be a harmless food production project by the emperor Sunfire. What to do? Which side will the two groups end up on? I will admit I had to dock it a point for the ending. Kind of a Hollywood glory ending. All in all it's an ok story but you might have to have knowledge of the new mutants and the hellions to appreciate the nuances of the story.

best academy x title so far

collects issue #16-19. i've been fairly disappointed with defillips/weir's run on new mutants v.3/new x-men academy x, but this is the best arc so far. as you prob. know, this title is part of the house of m series which, b/c of the scarlet witch's powers running amok, is basically a chance for marvel to write some "what if?" stories into their main books. in this instance magneto has overcome all of the homo sapiens (who now exist as second-class citizens). noriko, who gets a lot of attention here, is trying to find her father (a homo sapien) who is head of a resistance group. unfortunately the junior SHIELD corps (mostly hellions members) is trying to track him down as well. the setup is much more interesting than usual and it has a lot of action, and some nice guest appearances for fans of the orig. series (cypher!! yeah! and magik!). disappointed that dani didn't kick as much @$$ as usual though, and that rahne and northstar weren't in it, but those aren't major complaints. lopresti's art is fantastic, better than his work on excalibur imo. overall this is prob. one of the better books in the house of m series and def. one of the better academy x books, although not for newcomers to the series.
