I am "on the fence" with this one.

The Scarlett Witch looses her mind and kills and wounds many of the Avengers. Magneto (her father) tries to help her by taking her to Genosia and asks Xavier to help her. He can't. The X-Men and the Avengers meet to discuss her fate realizing the danger she represents. Quicksilver pleds with Magneto to save her. He won't. Quicksilver goes to his sister and convinces her to remake the world. The world burns white and is reborn where mutants are the dominant species and the sapians are on the path to extinction. This was a different offshoot to the House of M. The heros and villans take a back seat in this storyline where instead we have the "token" sapian special agent Ismael Ortega and his mutant partner Lucas Bishop getting caught up in the underworld of crime and the human re-stance movement. There are side stories such as Ortega's daughter who is 1/2 mutant but her powers haven't appeared so she will go through a ritual to enable her powers. Then there is the shapeshifting actress married to the mob boss. The one thing that ties back to the House of M, is that you will get an explanation on how people converted over to mutants which was mentioned in the previous stories. Other then that; this story would make some thing it really doesn't belong since it does not revolve around a super hero. The one thing I liked is that it does show the possibilities of what would happen if our world was faced with similar situations. It shows that man is fallible be he mutant or sapian.

House of M Mutopia X

Good stuff. exactly what I wanted as I am trying to get through and caught up in the series.

Surprisingly good

In "House of M" the Marvel universe has been changed by the reality-altering powers of the Scarlett Witch to a world which is ruled by mutants. The five issue Mutopia X miniseries chronicles what happened to the characters of District X, which was cancelled due to the way the House of M story ended. Human special agent Ismael Ortega and mutant cop Lucas Bishop get caught up in a tangled noirish story involving the Human resistance movement, a movie producer engaged in loads of illegal activities and his shapeshifting actress wife. Meanwhile Ortega's daughter, who has mutant DNA from her mother but whose powers haven't manifested, is being prepared for a ritual that will bring out her mutant powers. The character of Ismael Ortega is fallable and his story is very real despite the surreality of the setting. The tale of the shapeshifting actress is poigniant and tragic. And the producer/mob boss is genuinely creepy and intense. The thing that gripped me about this series is the fact that for the first three issues of the story, you actually don't need to know anything about District X or the House of M. In the beginning the story really stands alone. But the end of the fourth issue and all of the fifth take us back to reality and the events that happen in the House of M have repurcussions back in the real world. Mutopia X doesn't star any of the major Marvel characters (although Bishop was a big B-lister for awhile) and it isn't necessary to read this to enjoy the main House of M story, but if you want to read a good solid story, this is it.
