Simply frightening

I read this book as a child. Sneaking it under the covers at night I would terrify myself with the stories in this book. The vampire in one story was the most terrifying and had me staring at my bedroom window every night waiting for the tickling of breaking glass of him trying to get into my room. I have been desperately looking for this book for many years and was pleased to have finally found it. The stories had such a profound impact for me as a child I had to find this book again. Great read and I can't wait to read it again. This time as an adult. I bet it will still give me the willies.

Spellbinding and haunting

I read this book as a child when it was first published. I lost it on a camp and can't wait to get my hands on it again. Many of the stories are eerie and others light hearted. They include tales of a modern-day zombie, ghosts in old houses, rock throwing demons, UFO's giving police a hard time, a vampire (in England of all places!) and a large flying ancient bird. The stories have stuck with me all these years and some of them gave me the creeps!! Well worth a read, but not at night!!

Thrilling, quite frightening...

Whether the stories within this book are true(as is claimed to be) or not, the compilation is still worth the read for its entertainment value. A few of them are kind of tongue in cheek, but most had me glued to the page, especially with the thought that these events might be true. I found the most frightening story to be "House Of Evil", although there are many more good ones. Most of the stories have a uniqueness to them thats different from your run of the mill haunted house story. "House of Evil" frightened me the most simply because of the events experienced by the people living in that house. The thought of a grey, 3-foot tall hooved creature with the head of a rat, and a long sniveling snout walking across the floor struck a certain eery fear inside me. A quick and fun read, I recommend it.
