Different Approach

This picture book of brown tone illustrations is geared toward older elementary, based on the writing style. The story is about a pioneer doctor and contains illustrations of story items--e.g., blood-letting tools, whiskey, garlic--which Dr. Hutchinson uses. Factual details make this story real and could prompt much discussion. The story is told from the point of view of a girl who sees the many activities of the doctor, including his many roles in the community.
