Designer Storage from HOUSE BEAUTIFUL Magazine

This is the paperback version of the hardcover first edition of HOUSE BEAUTIFUL STORAGE, 1998. Examples were taken from the magazine during the classic period when Louis Oliver Gropp was Editior-in-Chief. Sally Clark wrote the minimal text, little more than captions. The book is divided into chapters "Living", "Dining", "Kitchens", "Dressing", "Baths", "Bedrooms",and "Two Options". All examples either employ antique furniture for storage or custom built solutions by an interior designer or architect. While inspiration can be found for a large price range, do not consider this a do-it-yourself book as such. Interior designer Bunny Williams is represented by her own Connecticut library which features a wall of bookshelves, and a sun porch dining room by architect John Tackett with a butler's cart providing the storage. The book-filled sitting rooms in the Coach House, the last home of decorating legend Nancy Lancaster, are also shown. A minimal kitchen in French designer Christian Liaigre's own weekend house contrasts with a very decorated country house combination dressing and bathroom by David Anthony Easton complete with a custom cabinet to hold the lavatory made to resemble an antique washstand. Examples from projects by designers and architects Christian Badin, Bruce Bierman, Laura Bohn, Mario Buatta, Dan Carithers, Mary Douglas Drysdale, Tom Fleming, Mariette Himes Gomez, William Hodgins, Hugh Newell Jacobsen, Richard Keith Langham, Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, Thomas O'Brien, Peter Pennoyer, Katie Ridder, John Saladino, Peter Shelton & Lee Mindel, and Vincent Wolf and others competently fill out this book. While HOUSE BEAUTIFUL STORAGE might not be as useful to many readers as some of the others in the series, the variety of good examples shown within a decorated setting makes this a useful reference to any design library.
