Didn’t want it to end

Such a fun book I wanted it to go on forever!

Loved it

I just finished reading Hotel Magnifique by Emily J Taylor. This book is about a magical hotel that only comes around once and a while. In it Jani discovers the disturbing secrets of "Hotel Magnifique." I chose to read this book by discovering it on Bookishfirst. I loved the cover it caught my attention it's so pretty so I decided to read the description and look it up on Booktok. I'm glad I did I loved it it's a wonderful interesting story. It's one I wish I could read again. Let's be honest Jani was irritating at first though but I understood their reasoning for it. If you can get past that it's a definite amazing read. If you love fantasy and magical stories definitely read this. So the cover what I love about it is the feathers surrounding the clock and key the person who designed the cover did a really good job 5/5 for the cover 4/5 for the story.

Magically sinister

The hotel itself was really cool. I loved reading the descriptions of the different guest rooms and the entertainment that was put on for the guests. Life seems to be really great at Hotel Magnifique though Jani seems to find out pretty quickly that not all is lovely as the orange trees that litter the lobby. I think I would have enjoyed the story more of Jani wasn't so stubborn and making rash decisions all the time, despite getting advice to the contrary. It does fit the age of this character but I wouldn't have minded a little more maturity, especially since she has been raising her sister for a few years after their mom died. Yes, there is excitement and some of the summinaires were really cool, like Beatrice or Issig or scary like Ysra and those would have been fun to get to know better but it never really fleshes them out. You do get an info dump near the end from a character that is conveniently shown and then snuffed out which was jarring and could have been done differently. This was not bad for a debut book and if it had stuck with the Hotel and its magics plus the more interesting of the summinaires, it would have been most excellent. I did enjoy most of it though.

Imaginative, enchanting and dark

Hotel Magnifique follows the story of two sisters who gain employment at a mysterious, magical hotel that travels to a new location every night. Jani is to work as a maid and wants to provide for her younger sister Zosa after their mother died and left them orphaned. Zosa, who has a beautiful voice is employed as a singer. Shortly after securing contracts to work at the hotel, Jani realizes that all is not as it appears. Something dark and sinister lurks beneath the dazzling, luxurious surroundings. Determined to save her sister, Jani uncovers the dark secrets of the hotel with the help of a few allies including Bel, a handsome magician. Hotel Magnifique is richly imagined with an interesting magic system, that is both enchanting and dark. There is a slow burn romance, but this is really a story about the love between two sisters, and the lengths they will go to protect each other. The writing and dialogue could, at times, be simplistic, which made me think it was oriented to a younger YA reader. It was a spellbinding, enjoyable and compelling read with some unexpected twists and turns. Thank you to BookishFirst for a review copy.

Magnifique Indeed!

Hotel Magnifique is an enchanting, thrilling tale begging to be set loose on the world. From the start, readers will be charmed by sisters Jani and Zosa before being pulled into the mysterious and magnificent Hotel Magnifique. Here, an entire cast of curious characters take center stage as a world bigger than the sisters’ own unfurls before them. This world and the magic system it hinges upon is completely original, brimming with intrigue and dazzling with wonder. Paired with a whimsical tone that darkens the further individuals read, Hotel Magnifique sets itself up as a promising and delightful debt from author Emily J. Taylor. If you are a fan of books like Caraval or tv series like Hotel del Luna, this book is sure to become a new favorite. I’m so happy I got the opportunity to read it when I did and am very eager to see what Emily J. Taylor surprises readers with next!
