loveable set of characters

I first started reading Suzy Kline books when she became my son's second grade teacher. She is a gem and she writes books about things that happen to her characters that kids can relate to. I am such a fan that I bought everything she and her husband Rufus have written. All of her characters are good kids that get into little messy situations, and by the end of the story they have discovered how to work out their problems. Great life lessons for all our kids. We love you Suzy!

Horrible Harry Goes to the Moon!

This is a story of a boy named, Harry. The adventure begins when Harry and his third-grade classmates research moon facts. the children research and compile moon facts in a variety of ways. Harry is very resourceful and gets his information by nonconventional ways. This causes conflict between Harry and a character named, Mary. Mary uses textooks and researches the facts. As the story progresses the story teaches the reader that we can learn by using a multitude of resources. The story continues with the students working together to have a bake sale to raise money for a telescope. The students eventually earn the money for the telescope and Harry is so excited that he makes everyone feel they have traveled to the moon through his imagination. The story is wonderful and written in the language and voice of a child. The author goes beyond telling a story and teaches social skills to the reader. The author suggests ways of getting along and working out problems that may happen to a child in school. ie. taking turns. The author also does a great job with vocabulary and the chapters are short for young readers. The illustrations help to express the authors thoughts. They bring out the humor of the story. This book would be great to use in a classroom. It can be used in Science, math, and Language Arts. In Science when covering the phases of the moon, moon facts, NASA, astronauts, and space travel. Language Arts for writing activities, and to compare and contrast characters. In Math to teach money.
