We checked this book out of the library and fell in love with it immediately. No matter how many times I read it to grandchildren (they always choose this one!), I never get tired of it. It's WONDERFUL. It is very funny and sweet. Horace is a knight who isn't terribly fond of his brother the king and he is forced to tend his niece, who he doesn't know, when the king gets the flu. His adventures with Minuette are very funny and he learns an important lesson in life. The illustrations are PERFECT. Minuette is a great character. You will love this book!!

Horace The Horrible: A Knight Meets His Match is an upbeat story and original story by Jackie French Koller of a sick king who must send away his daughter the princess to the care of her uncle Horace. Horace knows how to slay dragons, crush armies, and rescue damsels in distress, but how is he to look after a little girl who misses her daddy? A powerful allegory, brought to life with eye-catching color illustrations by Jackie Urbanovic, and written with an overlay of whimsy yet at its core dealing with a serious issue, Horace The Horrible is a welcome and recommended addition to family, school, and community library picture book collections for young readers ages 4 to 7.
