Book Overview

When she was just five years old, Melissa Braxton watched her father take her mother's life. Separated from her sister, Lola, at that time, Melissa grew up with a strong desire to help those stuck in abusive relationships. It's why she became a therapist and opened a domestic abuse shelter.

After losing a leg to a gunshot wound in the line of duty, Phil Osbourne has felt like a man without a purpose--until he hears Melissa's story and decides...

Pretty good, with great fight and action scenes!

This is a featured verse in the book that I love, and it fits perfectly.. "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21 KJV This book was AMAZING! Honor's Refuge is book #3 in the Love and Honor series by Hallee Bridgeman. In my opinion, each book has gotten better as the series has continued on! This story features Special Forces A-Team member Phil Osbourne, who in book #1, Honor Bound, lost his lower leg in shoot-out with a war-lord in the jungles of Katangela. Phil struggles fiercely with the temptation of substance abuse, and feeling less than after losing his leg. This causes him to distance himself from abuse shelter director Melissa Braxton, who has cared and prayed for him for a long time. Melissa has dealt with her past and spends her days helping those needing sanctuary in her community. All these things make for a wonderful story of love, perseverance, and God's providence working in all our lives. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this complimentary e-book. A positive review was not required of me, and the thoughts above are my own. Negative elements and trigger warnings: a character sports a bikini Violent death- A villain feeds their henchman to the swamp alligators. There is a bit of blood here and there, but nothing morbid. Innocent people are abused and beaten by people they trusted. Substance addiction, drinking.

Action Packed!

Honor’s Refuge by Hallee Bridgeman is the third book in her Love & Honor series. Melissa Braxton runs a domestic abuse shelter. Phil Osbourne uses his contacts to locate Melissa’s long-lost sister. He had no idea what kind of terror his compassionate act was going to unleash. This was a very intense story. The action was non-stop. Something new was always just around the corner. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Phil's story was worth the wait

I've loved all the books in the series but this is absolutely my favorite. Phil Osbourne snagged my attention in the first book when his world fell apart and his story was so worth the wait. His tremendous faith and strength to overcome his darkest days and fears make him an incredible hero. Despite his insecurity and grumpiness, Melissa loves Phil anyway and slowly draws him out of his cave with her persistent, bold, yet tender affection. There are some sensitive scenes in the book since Phil works in the medical field and Melissa works as a safehouse coordinator and counselor, but these add to the stark reality of how people suffer on a daily basis because of others' cruelty. The action and suspense in this book is different from the overseas combat in the first book and governmental work tracking down terrorists in the second book. Powerful drug cartels, women needing help and shelter, and two people's passion to protect those who are powerless make for some pretty intense suspense and action. I would recommend reading the series in order so that you can get the full flavor of who Phil is and how far he's come. I'm hoping for more books in the series! I received the book from the publisher via NetGalley and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.
