A Carefully Written Poetry Book -- a review by Simone, age 9

Honey Sandwich is a carefully written poetry book with spice to it: It turns normal everyday occurrences into beautiful, hilarious, and creative poems. One of the poems that focuses on everyday life is" Don't Touch," when a boy goes with his mom to the store and is told several times not to touch things but does it against his mother's will. When he sees that his older sister gets to touch things that he does not have permission to touch he pulls the complaining into high gear. Just some of his complaints are "That's not fair. You let Gabby touch it." And "It slipped." In the end they get a parking ticket, and the boy can never go shopping with his mom again.The poetry covers a variety of topics, such as going to the store and going back to school. Each poem has really good detail. The author does a really good job of choosing voice for each poem: the mom, the kid, or a narrator. The illustrations are also really funny and interesting. I love the illustrations because they look like a child drew them. So if you're looking for some poems to read to yourself or someone else, you found the right book!
