COLOR PHOTO BOOK OF HOMEBUILT AIRPLANES WITH THE TEXT BY PETER GARRISON AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY BARON WOLMAN This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is the book that started me off in building my own airplane. It is a beautifully written introduction to homebuilt aircraft by one of the foremost avition writers, focusing on a handful of common designs and discussing their design, construction and use. It doesn't try to be a "how-to" guide, nor does it wander off into technical details. Rather, it gives a good sense of the feelings involved in building one of these aircraft. After all, nobody builds their own aircraft for practical reasons. They build their own aircraft for the pure love of it!Accompanying the text are some of the finest aviation photographs I have ever seen. This book would be worth the price for the photographs alone. It seems like the number of books introducing homebuild aircraft has grown exponentially in the last ten years. Most of these books, however, tend to either gloss over the issues or descend into the sort of technical details that would be appropriate for a more advanced text but seem merely pedantic in a laymans introduction. While a bit dated by now, this book remains the best primer on the subject that I have ever read.
