Very funny book

I read this book a few years back and I have to say I was physically crying laughing at some parts of this book. I've read a few of her others but none of them can stack up to this one in my opinion. It's one of those rare books that you can really just sit back and laugh until your heart's content.

Holy Ghost Corner

I absolutely loved this book. It started out slow. I was knocked off my feet in the middle of the book. I have started looking at the people in my own church to see which one resemble the characters in the book. I must admit I thought the book was going to be another church story. It shared light on way the business world work (having a meeting before the meeting), unconditional love, and the road to salvation. I was really impressed with Baby Doll wanting to be saved and Mr. Lacy manning up by marrying her so she could get saved and honor God completely. Bailey Catherine took the cake when she appeared at the meeting. Won't give it away. This is a MUST read. Savvy Book Club

awesome

I enjoyed this particular book ,because if you take this story it puts you or someone you know right there in the story, overall its reality for me or somebody in this world.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride

Life is chock full of surprises and can always be assured to toss a few curve balls your way. In HOLY GHOST CORNER, Theresa Hopson is finding out that a part of her life is not as she expected it would be at age 47. She is a successful entrepreneur living a Godly life, but no real prospects for a future husband. She has been the proverbial bridesmaid all her life, never meeting a man who can measure up to her expectations. The men she has dated up until this point can be tossed back from whence they came. Even her current hot/cold relationship with Reverend Parvell Sikes is not going well. Lamont Green, on the other hand, is not trying that holy matrimony scene nor is he trying to do the celibate thing. In fact, the more eye-candy, the merrier. Having experienced a divorce and raising a son, Lamont feels he is a seasoned man and therefore deserves to sow his oats, so to speak. His Aunt Queen Esther and friend, James try to show him he needs God in his life and that will lead him to a good woman. Once Lamont comes in contact with Theresa again, he soon develops unexplainable feelings for her which he tries to fight. Theresa is unable to explain her state of being completely at ease around him. When they each finally let go and let God, the results are amazing and Holy Ghost Corner may never be the same. Michele Andrea Bowen has written an outrageously funny, but sobering take on life in the Black church. I must admit, as funny as it was, there is a total ring of truth to it all. I was able to align each character with certain members of my church family, and that provided some laugh-out-loud moments for me. I love how she took issues like community development and weaved in a story about a church family working to save their community as well as dating as Christians. Ultimately, she shows God is necessary in all things; not just inside the Church walls, but in our work and personal relationships as well. Even though there were a few characters I didn't care for, I enjoyed the effort she put into developing each one. When this book drops, I believe there will be much to discuss. Reviewed by Brenda M.
