Hitorijime My Hero Volume 14 (“They Say Married Couples Start to Look Alike.”)

This volume refocuses on the main couple, Kousuke and Masahiro. At the beginning of the story, Ken rethinks his plans of becoming a game programmer and going to college with Asaya. Meanwhile, Kousuke and Masahiro confront Megumi, Masahiro’s mother, about her debt of 3 million yen. Masahiro collapses when he hears the price. After Kousuke returns home and Megumi heads to work, Masahiro finds someone opening his mail slot, possibly searching for Masahiro, Megumi, or the 3 million yen in the bag left in the hallway leading to the door. Masahiro also gets his heart pumping when Kousuke makes a surprise house visit. They bring Houjou in to solve this 3-million-yen mystery, but he doesn’t provide any genuine assistance. Discovering that the man attempting to get a glimpse of Masahiro turns out to be his father, Masahiro reminisces on when his father came to visit him, teaching Masahiro how to cook. Masahiro decides to stay with Kousuke at his place for the night. After Masahiro explains everything to Miho, Kousuke and Masahiro have a talk about how they’re rubbing off on one another. Later, everyone talks about how Masahiro’s sickness is causing them to worry, and even Kousuke joins the guys (Asaya, Ken, Shige, Yamabe, Chairman Yoshida, and Yunge) on the roof to discuss how worried he is about Masahiro. Masahiro takes that time to reflect on his life and everything going on in it. As Masahiro gets out of bed and talks to Megumi, he receives a challenge from Yunge for the cookoff. Masahiro rushes over, sparing no expense to prove he’s the better chef. Simultaneously, Kousuke and Houjou confront Shirou about the contact, which ends up in shreds. Megumi finally decides it’s time to move to a friend’s house and start over. The time comes when Masahiro, Asaya, Ken, and their friends go on their school trip, leaving the adults behind. Kousuke, Ayaka, Houjou, Shirou, and Natsuo throw a small get-together party at Relax Bar Mary. I’m so glad to see Ayaka back to her old self. The last volume showed her dressed as a little girl, which was a bit weird. Now, Houjou, her husband, doesn’t know how to act around her. Also, Natsuo may not like Yunge, but he greatly depends on him for work. During the school trip, Masahiro realizes how much he misses Kousuke. Ken doesn’t have that problem and can hang out with Asaya as much as he wants. Masahiro plays cards with his friends so he won’t be lonely—at least for a while. Three days later, Ken returns home to find Kousuke, Shigeo, and Sasa waiting for him. Kousuke is surprised when Masahiro strolls through the door and is quickly greeted by Shigeo. Kousuke celebrates, with alcohol, about the guys returning home. Kousuke’s so tipsy, Masahiro has to drag him to bed. When Yunge’s at work, he gets a call about an emergency—Sasa, the cat, is pregnant. Yunge informs Natsuo about the incident after Natsuo tells his friends he turned down Yunge’s request to be his boyfriend. However, Yunge convinces Natsuo to come to the Ohshiba house to apologize for Mary getting Sasa pregnant. Somehow, Natsuo doesn’t understand a cat is pregnant, not a woman—so he’s shocked to discover Sasa’s three little beautiful kittens. Natsuo does admit they are cute to Mary later. Natsuo quickly leaves, while Yunge tells Natsuo TMI. Natsuo takes Mary for a walk to see his children when Tateshina bumps into him. Natsuo wants to spend the night with him, but Tateshina refuses because he wants to see Natsuo fall in love with Yunge. Yunge doesn’t know how to react, so he walks away—for good, it seems. Kousuke gets some shocking news about his mother. There will be one additional member added to the family. It’s ironic how Shige’s mother is the nurse caring for Miho. No wonder Shige’s mother returns home late. Memeco Arii has shocked me with the new family members in the Ohshiba house. I love Sasa’s kittens; they are so cute! I love that Ken says they’re keeping all three babies. I hope one day Mary will be able to see his children. I can’t
