Hitorijime My Hero Volume 13 (“I Always Knew I’d Fall For You—I Just Wish I Could’ve Fallen More Sof

This volume heavily contains a lot of Asaya and Ken content. Don’t worry; Kousuke, Masahiro, and the boys (Shige, Yamabe, Chairman Yoshida, and Yunge) and Shigeo and Sasa share some of the spotlight. Memeco Arii begins the story where it last left off, at the game tournament with Pei-taro demanding a rematch with Ken. Ken declines Pei-taro’s requests and sticks with Asaya. Pei-taro gives Ken his business card. When Shige and Yamabe discover Ken’s introductions with the brilliant game director, they are ecstatic. Meanwhile, Pei-taro is hanging out with his friends until he realizes he’ll have to make different temporary living arrangements. Asaya rewards Ken for staying loyal to his boyfriend. The next morning, Kousuke and Masahiro uncover a mysterious person passed out in front of their house—Pei-taro himself. Pei-taro takes Kousuke’s and Masahiro’s kindness and uses it as inspiration for his next game. There’s a bit of hand-holding, or I should say hand-dragging, between the two main couples. Everything seems perfect until Asaya’s mother, Akiko, and sister, Ayaka, show up at his school to declare they are transferring him to a new school and plan on being a family again. Asaya’s worst fear has come to life. It appears that he’ll have to say goodbye and leave Ken again. While Ayaka loves the idea of having her mother home, Asaya does not. He eventually tells Ken about his move. In response, Ken declares that they will run away together. Kousuke, Masahiro, Ken, Houjou, Onda, and the boys all agree that Akiko’s treatment of her family is unfair and selfish. Kousuke, Masahiro, Houjou, and Onda do everything in their power to convince Akiko to leave Asaya in his current school, but it ultimately rests in the hands of Miho, Kousuke’s and Ken’s mother, to make peace between a mother and her son. While on the run, Asaya and Ken encounter Pei-taro again. After hearing their runaway story, Pei-taro blackmails them to join him at his home and worksite. Asaya makes a major decision for Ken, to let him live his life alone. It is ridiculous how Ayaka’s and Asaya’s mother is making Ayaka resort back to her childhood, trying to make up for lost time. Also, because Akiko doesn’t know how to feel in situations with her son, she has to ask Ayaka for advice on how a mother should feel. I feel bad for Asaya being forced into a situation he doesn’t want to be stuck in. And Asaya is crazy if he thinks he can leave Ken behind without a fight. My prediction about Pei-taro (AKA Rimpei, which I think is his real name) stealing Ken’s time away from Asaya appears to have come true. He says some sketchy lines that imply he might be interested in Ken, but not for the reasons you may think. Pei-taro is more popular than I originally thought. I didn’t think he worked as a gamer storyteller. Kousuke’s not pleased when he discovers Pei-taro kidnapped and blackmailed his little brother, Ken, and his boyfriend, Asaya. When Asaya and Ken reunite, Ken declares a significant promise. Ken claims to the whole Hasekura family that Asaya will be an Ohshiba. It looks like we have two engagements on our hands. Asaya’s in shock that Ken’s thinking about marriage. Ken has definitely come a long way. In the beginning, Ken only wanted to be friends with Asaya, and now he wants to marry Asaya! I am so proud of Ken, and Asaya for sticking up for himself against his mother. On the other hand, Masahiro’s mother, Megumi, gets involved with the wrong people who loan her money she can’t pay back. What will happen when Kousuke wants to have a gentlemen’s talk with these people? On the bright side, the additional stories have some hilarious scenes to them. I love how Ken is trying to search for a gift to give Asaya on White Day. It’s also funny how Yunge tries to wedge his way into Natsuo’s heart. I hope Ayaka moves out of this weird phase she’s going through and reunites with her even weirder husband, Houjou. I wish the best for each couple and character Memeco Arii has created. I c
