Mr. Love's chronological history of the U.S. Navy presents the reader with an extremely concise picture of the people and events that have led up to the current status of the Navy. The author is at points, highly critical of both high ranking military and political leaders, and the conduct and theory of battle in a few very famous fleet skirmishes. Although an obvious Navy supporter, Mr. Love's opinions on "jointness", and the fallout from the McNamara years, have direct relevance on today's Navy and should be taken into account as the U.S. military moves into the 20th century. This book is a must for all serious students of Naval History.
