A Primer.

As with all of the books in the "Lessons Learned" series from HBR, HIRING & FIRING is a compilation of short pieces from noted business leaders citing their own personal experience with the topic at hand. Originally, I gave the book 3 stars, then went back and upgraded it to 4. Even though I found the book to be far too basic, as with other books of this series, it is not meant to be an in-depth study, but rather a quick resource or primer, if you will. In that vain, it's a pretty good book. At under 100-pages, it can be read in an hour or so. So, if you're just needing a quick reference before making a hiring or firing decision, this will provide you with confidence that you are making the right choice and some quick and easy suggestions to follow. There's nothing earth shattering here, and if you are in an HR department and making hiring and termination decisions regularly, this will be far too basic to do you much good. However, if you just want to be more confident in your next decision, or are not quite sure how to move forward, this might be a good resource for you.
