Hinterland kept me off-balance from the start. The story line is not linear, which worked well for the topic. It made the main character, a reporter, much more real and pulled me into the story more so that the typical, first I did this, then I did that, scenario would have. The subject matter (whether you want to consider it neo-nazi or homegrown terrorist) is edgy and controversial, and Max McCoy wove the story together in a way that I enjoyed in spite of (or because of?) the subject matter. If you want a story that expects you to think and doesn't hand you everything in a nice, neat little package, I recommend Hinterland.
Max McCoy has another winner!!

"Hinterland" by Max McCoy is another modern day thriller. In fact, it is very timely with our constant terrorist alerts and stories of secret hate groups on the edges of our society. If you liked "The Moon Pool" you will enjoy this latest novel from the pin of Mr. McCoy! If you are like me and enjoy knowing the size and color of that abandoned shoe in the photo of the crime scene--this one is for you! W Lawson
