Beginning Medical Transcription Course

It is a very informative book - however, you should already be enrolled in a transcription course in order to follow all the information. I did find the beginning useful for information about what the profession is all about.

This book is really for beginners as it stated

I did not have any problem understanding this book as I am a medical coder and is familiar with a few medical terms and meanings. However, I am glad that this was one of the many medical transcription books that I bought, and not the ony one. By going through my other books I realize that there are lots more information in the other books than this. However, this book is good for what it is; beginning medical transcription. n my opinion, it certainly is a beginners book which gives you examples of terms, sample documents, practice exercises and also introduces you to medical transcription career. The practice exercises on the CD are also easier than my other books. I would recommend it to someone who wants to know if medical transcription is the career for them, because the book takes you in the field. The CD has transcription templates, puzzles, tests etc. If I had purchased this book before the others then this would have been very beneficial to me as I am teaching myself, but because I have been through the others this now seems like basic stuff. I could not get it to work on my Vista, luckily I have a computer that runs Windows XP. I am not saying that I don't like this book but you really need to add another book or two with this to really know what medical transcription is all about and the needed skills to prepare you for the field. =========Update======== For those of you who have Vista, I called the publisher and received a patch that works perfectly. Hopefully you will have the same luck as I did. They will email you the instructions which will eventually take you to their Website where you can download the patch. Good luck. I also received the audio cassettes today and I love them. They are good practice material to help you get familiar with some of the medical terms used in dictations, the different types of dictated documents and to get an idea of the format of dictated recordings. I have no regret that I purchased the audio cassettes. However, I could do without the book and the CD that is packaged with it, because I have other more detailed books, but it works just fine as another practice material and I did not pay much for it as it was used. It is good to have the audio recordings clear for the beginner student as you would like to learn the words/terms as you listen to the CDs. It is also recorded at a good pace. Please note that the audio cassettes (7 of them) have to be purchased separately.

Hilcrest Transcription

This is exactly the book I was looking for. The information and examples are fully explained. My only criticism is that the book is specific to Hillcrest Medical Centers and affiliate care facilities. Other formats will most likely be used wherever I work but the information necessary for each document is explained. Before beginning with a new employer, I will get an example of their formats. But the information is perfect for me as someone learning the field. I see where this book will be used as reference in the future.

Second career?

My daughter works with horses, makes very good money, but only works 20 hours a week. She was considering taking medical transcriptionist courses. I bought this book to give her a real taste of what the courses would be like. It would be a good additional career if she could work it around the horse training she loves and excels at. This book is perfect for anyone considering a medical transcriptionist career. I gives you a very clear idea what is involved in beginning transcription.

Very pleased.

This is the textbook I used in my Beginning Medical Transcription course and I found it to be very helpful. Audio cassette tapes were given out from the teacher with model operative, autopsy, H & P, cytology, and consultation reports that coincided with the lessons in the book. The terminology that was in each chapter was used frequently in the reports to assimilate the student with typing the words, as well as being able to hear it pronounced in different ways. It gave a background lesson in basic terminology, including suffixes and root words. I thought that this book helped me in great ways.
