A wealth of information!

“Hiking the Black Hills Country” is so well organized that it is indispensable. Details and wonderful maps on 58 trails provide information on starting point, elevation gain, distance, difficulty, hiking time and seasons, fees and permits, trail contact source, dog-friendly status, the geographical status (NF, Monument, State Park, etc.), nearest town, other categories of trail users (Mtn bikers, etc.), maps, how to find the trailhead and more. It is produced by the American Hiking Society—a resource I will seek out for other trails in the US. Each of the maps is clearly readable and even provides scales in both miles and kilometers. Miles and directions are also spelled out. Even more useful details are provided in the appendices. It is the most perfect hiking guide I have ever found.
