This book is an enchanting summary of beautiful hikes.

"Hiking Tahoe's Wildflower Trails" is a wonderful book, a must have for those who love wildflowers and want to know more about them - it covers so much more than other books and hiking guides. There is no other book like this that will take you deeply into the joyous experience of wildflowers while taking you to the exact places they grow at Tahoe and at the specific times of the year in which they bloom. If you love columbines, shooting stars, or some other special flower, Julie will take you along the trail right to the spot where they grow and tell you when you can find them. She tells wonderful stories about the flowers, the insects that visit them, and how the Indians used them. I was surprised by the negativity that one reviewer indicated about the name change. Upon closer scrutiny I'm sure he/she would have realized that it was the same book, and could have delighted a friend by giving it as a gift. It might have lifted that person's spirit. I'm sure it will delight yours.

A Beautiful Book

I have both editions of Julie Carville's wonderful book, Lingering in Tahoe's Wild Gardens and Hiking Tahoe's Wildflower Trails - one for my coffee table to share with friends and one that gets battered from trail use. The reviewer who is angry over the book title change does a real disservice to this fine book. I took a class from Ms. Carville and learned that the title was changed to clarify its content, so people did not confuse it with a gardening book. If you love wildflowers andeverything connected with them, this is a must book. Even if you don't plan on hiking at Tahoe, you'll enjoy it because it has so much information about the flowers that commonly grow throughout the high mountainous regions of the Sierra, Rockies, Cascades etc. It is filled with juicy information about interesting aspects of botany, Native American plant uses, pollinators, plant namings, and nature philosophy and is a wonderful book to help you share nature with children. I don't want to see one sour puss put down this truly lovely and informative book.

Enchanted

Having met and hiked with the author, as well as reading her book, has been a wonderful opening to the world of flowers beyond the catergorizing and naming. The intricacies of the plants, the history they carry, their medicinal and other uses, their reproductive individuality, are thoughtfully and beautifully expressed in this book. Each hike described has a theme and focus that is both accessible and inspirational. Along with a hand lens, this book is a must for flower lovers.

Reprint is still a good book.

I have the book "Lingering in Tahoe's Wild Gardens". If "Hiking Tahoe's Wildflower Trails" is a reprint it's worth getting as long as you don't have the original. Lot's of good information and the hikes are beautiful. I wish there were more pictures or drawings. You may also need some other wildflower book to help identify the flowers she talks about.
