Construction of machines, systems and structures is accompanied by the continuously increasing demand on their performance, speed of main functions, and extension of life and reliability. The effect of high-frequency cyclic loading caused by oscillations of longitudinal or other waves results in the formation of stress or strain effects on the material. Test systems for conventional fatigue tests usually operate with frequencies of several units, tens or hundreds of cycles per second. It is necessary to determine whether these data can be transferred to testpieces subjected to several tens of thousands of cycles per second, e.g. 20 kHz, and also explain the relationship between the fatigue limit values obtained at low and high loading frequencies from the viewpoint of safety and reliability of components and structures.
