High Country Hero is Fun!

I found High Country Hero entertaining and a pleasure to read. The storyline is an appealing fast tale that leaves you happy. Be sure to read the first book, The Scout. Many characters from this book are in High Country Hero.

RUSSELL'S LANDING, OREGON - 1884DR. SAGE MARTIN WEST has returned from the East and her schooling to be a doctor after six years.FRIEDRICH STRYKER has become the newspaper owner.JOSHUA DUQUETTE and his wife run Duquette's Mercantile.Sage's father, William "Billy" West is now Mayor and is married to Henrietta Weldon West.Her uncle, John Montgomery is the Marshall, she tells Cord Lawson, his eyes, she remarks, are an odd gray-green and hard, like jade.Cord needs the services of a doctor and will not brook any attitude. They proceed to Orvo Ollenses's livery stable for a horse for Sage.Cal married Ruth and has 2 sons. Orvo never married!We once again go on a long mountionous trip as we follow the hardships of the long ride to save a life, Cord's wife.Cord know that they are being followed and that raises the tension. It turns out that Sage is definitely her mother's daughter in her artless seduction of Cord Lawson. Definitely her Hero.The trouble is that Cord is a bounty hunter, and feels more content on the trail, alone. Yet the memory of Sage haunts him.Sage finds that she needs advice from her Aunt Cissy, "Didn't she care about John leaving?" Cissy's advice - "Just make sure he wants to come back""Cord has a calling, a life, just as Sage has the calling to be a doctor." Ah, the understanding of Cissy - fabuluous! [chapter 22 - great] We learn of Cissy and John's son Matt [maybe another story?]Remember John having to dig an arrow out of Constance? Now Sage has to dig a bullet out of Cord. A great set of stories -- definitely keepers!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - although Sage is as forward as her mother.

Great historical read

Bounty hunter Cord Lawson rode into Dr. Sage West's life looking for a doctor. Will he also find love?Strong women and tough, but soft-hearted men, seem to be Ms. Banning's specialties. This is a fast-paced western historical with action and adventure. Secondary characters are straight out of the Old West.Be sure to also look for Lynna Banning's THE SCOUT, another excellent western historical.
