Just Okay

I read Cultish like, last year or this year, (I don't remember) and really enjoyed it and as someone who has been hey hun'd quite a few times in my life, this book felt like the logical progression in my reading journey about cults and cult adjacent entities. This book had me in the first half but lost me the longer it went on, particularly when the author realized being in an MLM was sh*tty & wrong but just...kept collecting a paycheck anyway? Like, seems skeezy, idk. I also feel like this was very white feminism-y and the author was like "Oh I'm not right or left, I just believe in respecting people" like, mmmmm, not loving that. Also I looked up her business Sober Mom Squad and she talked this big game about BIPOC people being underrepresented but features a whopping 1.65% of BIPOC women on the photos on her website soooooooo. Idk, this would have been a fascinating episode on Swindled or Scam Goddess, but maybe not a whole book? I don't know, far be it from me to criticize someone's lived experience from inside an MLM but I will say some passages seemed to ring a little hollow. Interesting enough, for sure, but didn't knock my socks off like I had hoped.
