An excellent and balanced overview

Somerlott has pulled off a refreshingly even-handed and readable top-level history of modern spiritualism and other phenomenon he groups as "the occult." Filled with humor and sometimes vitriol, the book introduces us to the main characters in the paranormal world up until the book's publishing date in the late sixties. If only more books would address the subject without taking everything so seriously!
