Good basic overview

Lovely photos of examples of various styles of herb gardens. This is a good basic book that will lead you to seek out more specifics on the style of garden you are most drawn to. In the back of the book is an index by botanical name and common name that gives each plant's habit, height/spread, site/soil preference, climate zone range, propagation etc that is very useful.

Herbs for a lifetime

This book is wonderfully informative. It gives the correct herbs to grow for your particular part of the country. The pictures and descriptions of plantings are also excellent.
