Alain de Banewulf and Bryne of Wickham are heading back home to England through France after fighting for King Richard when they rescue Katherine of Grunwald from brigands. Katherine is traveling with her companion and a few men. Katherine begs Alain to take her and Maria with him so she can safely travel to France. Alain agrees but Byrne is suspicious of Katherine's tale. Katherine's father discovered a holy treasure that he was going to take to the church where it belongs. Baron Hubert of Ravenshurst knows about the treasure and wants it for his own. Katherine's father was killed when Baron Hubert attacked them along their journey. Now Katherine must trust Alaine to keep her and her treasure safe until she can get to her uncle's home in France where she can deliver the holy cup to the church. Katherine grows to love Alain on their journey, but she is convinced that her plain appearance could never attract a man like him. Alain's growing feelings of protectiveness for Katherine startle him. Alain and Katherine's journey is treacherous and danger is constantly at their heels. When Katherine is taken from him, Alain will stop at nothing to save her. Her Knight Protector has an intriguing storyline and many well-developed characters. Alain is a gallant knight who won my heart with his love for Katherine. Katherine is lovely, kind, and intelligent. I was a little surprised by the way she overreacted to Alain's need to fight at the end though. Her Knight Protector is well written story with a lovely romance and a fitting ending.
