Loved Book Two.....Bring on #3!!!

Another very enjoyable outing from "Triple E" and her canine charges. As one who'd LOVE to know what her dogs are thinking, I thoroughly enjoy the "conversations" between Ellie and the dogs. From Mr. T to the "non-English speaking" Chihuahuas (can't wait for more on those two...this could be interesting...LOL!), I love eavesdropping on the chats. Ok, Judi....I'm ready for "Death In Show"! I can't wait to see what's next for Ellie, Rudy, Sam and the others!

super amateur sleuth

She makes a very nice living walking dogs for people too busy to do so; as a professional dog walker, Ellie Engleman takes out her canine friends twice a day. Ellie has the added advantage of being able to telepathically communicate with her pooch pals who would kill or die to protect her. While walking in Central Park with her terrier mix Rudy, he escorts her to the dwelling of a homeless person Gary who she on friendly terms with. He is dead with his body riddled by bullets. One of Gary's friends, a dirty water hot dog vender gives her an envelope from Gary. The NYPD lead detective questions Ellie in the station's interrogation room and implies she is a suspect. Also in the room is Sam Ryder who knows Ellie intimately after a one night stand; though he never called her again as he fears the emotions she surfaces in him. He gets her released into his custody. The envelope contains a will that leaves everything to Rudy with Ellie as executor. They open Gary's safety deposit box finding $800,000. An internet search leads to learning Gary's older brother killed their parents and Gary testified against his sibling who is now out of jail after thirty years of incarceration. A letter Gary left insists if he is murdered, his brother killed him; he also asks Ellie to find him and see justice done.. Sam knows Ellie will put herself in danger to fulfill her friend's death wish; he plans to keep her safe. It is rare that one can label an amateur sleuth precious, but HEIR OF THE DOG fits that description to a T. Ella and her dogs are cute and charming, but Rudy is precious and charming. The hint of romance between the dog walker and the detective adds depth to her inquiry as he cannot leave her probe without him. The whodunit has a sense of canine whimsy yet is a strong investigative thriller as Judi McCoy's magic misery tour of Manhattan is a winner. Harriet Klausner

Entertaining plot, fascinating characters, delightful HOME RUN!

Judi McCoy has hit another delightful HOME RUN! The book is riveting, with an entertaining plot and fascinating characters. I could not put it down. Even better than the first book in the Dog Walker Mystery series, which happened to be great. Starting on page one, when main character and dog walker, Ellie, and her beloved Yorkiepoo, Rudy, discover a dead body in the park, we are immediately engaged in the fast-paced events that unfold. Viv, (Ellie's best friend), Viv's dog, Mr.T, other supporting characters, and the 30 assorted pooches that Ellie is responsible for walking, make for delightful reading. It is the perfect mix of sustained suspense, romantic encounters and heartwarming inter-species communication. Ellie's ability to "converse" with her canine charges, "speak" to them, "hear" their replies, and understand their feelings is captivating. I loved the book, and the book's dedication to her favorite charity, Best Friends Animal Society, in Kanab, Utah. The author mentions this outstanding animal rescue organization several times, in the course of the story. It is wonderful that Judi McCoy is not only a talented writer, but she has a charitable heart. She even manages to make mention of a TV show on National Geographic, called "Dogtown", that is all about Best Friends amazing animal rescues. I was very impressed! A delightful book from a delightful lady!

"Heir of the Dog" is the second Ellie Engleman "Dog Walker Mystery," and it is just as good as "Hounding the Pavement." I couldn't put it down! Ellie has the unusual ability to talk to dogs. Not like you and I do, because the dogs answer her. Ellie speaks dog! She and her best buddy, a Yorkie-poo named Rudy, find the body of a homeless man they have befriended. Gary considered them his only friends, so he leaves them all his worldly possessions, over $800,000!! So, why was he homeless...? Buy the book! He asks Ellie to find his killer, which gets her involved once again with the hunky detective from the first book. The story is good and moves quickly. The conversations between Ellie and her puppy pals are a hoot! The romance is sweet. And I can't wait for the next book! Great job, Judi!

Another Great book from Judi McCoy

I was lucky enough to get an ARC for Heir of the Dog by Judi McCoy. It's book two in her dog walker series. It's a great book, that held my interest from beginning to end, and I didn't want to put it down. The story is clever. It was easy to believe that Rudy would inherit money from the victim, a homeless man living in Central Park. And Ellie was smart to handle Sam, her one night lover, the way she did. I can't wait for the hext book, I think it's Death in Show, to see what happens to Ellie, Rudy, her dogs, and her detective. If you like mystery, romance, and dogs, these novels are the perfect reads.
