Anna Katz has one goal in life: to convince the women at the St. Paul, MN Garment Factory to join the union and fight for the working rights they justly deserve. When she meets the tall, handsome Nils... This description may be from another edition of this product.
This is a well-written book, about star-crossed lovers in the Twin Cities of the late 1900s. It is clear that the author has done a lot of historical research, which gives an authentic feel to the setting of the book. The characters are interesting and the story quickly caught my interest; it was difficult to put the book down. The romance and drama make it especially appealing to women who are looking for a good read.
Aptly titled

Heartstrings came to me as a gift and I began reading it, mostly out of curiosity. I kept reading because author, Inna Larsen, quickly drew me into the story and the interweaving of themes. On the surface this is simply a tale of two young workers from widely divergent backgrounds who meet by chance and fall in love. Much more complicated than that, Larsen deftly interjects the twists and turns (strings) of religious/cultural differences, tolerance/intolerance, non-violence,immigration issues, emergence of labor unions, the healing and unifying power of music, and a feisty stray gray and white kitten. And like the music of Nils' hardanger fiddle, the story continues to resonate long after the end of the book has been reached And I am left wondering how the lives of Nils & Anna, and Anna's family ties will all play out.
An author who tugs at the heartstrings...

"HEARTSTRINGS is a bittersweet, tender love story... I fell in love with Anna and Nils from the very first time I met them and cried when they finally got their happy ending." ~Award-winning author Karen Wiesner
