This book provides a comprehensive introduction to the numerous challenges facing policymakers seeking to design and put into place robust healthcare systems in the face of rapid socio-economic and demographic changes. While addressing healthcare systems in the industrialised world, most of the emphasis lies on discussing the different policy options for middle- and lower-income countries. The book was useful for up-to-date statistics on health and demographic issues, a clear and concise writing style, and numerous case studies from various countries. The authors provide a clear analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of different models and approaches, highlighting in which contexts they may be most applicable and effective. Each section comes with a helpful list of references which are a good starting point to explore the issues in greater depth.
