very good book, not like new condition

I've just started the book and I really like how it is written. I gave 3 stars because it is not the condition of very good or like new. The hard cover is punctured and marred on the front. The very first page I opened had writing on it. I haven't read any further than that, but I am disappointed to receive a book in this condition when I paid for a better condition.
