First book that I've read by Jo Leigh, but it won't be the last!

Have Mercy by Jo Leigh is a Harlequin Blaze story. It is about Will Desmond, a successful businessman and ex-con and Mercy Jones, a pet concierge at a posh hotel in New York. Will checks into the hotel under the guise of it being a vacation, but he has actually come to check up on his grandmother who he suspects is getting ready to pull a jewelry heist. He immediately finds himself attracted to Mercy, but he also needs to use her to get information and access to her pet sitter's business. Both characters have had a traumatic childhood with Will have been taught to lie, cheat, and steal at an early age and Mercy having grown up in foster homes where the situations where bad. The book alludes to her possibly having been sexually assaulted while in foster care, but no specific details were made. Both of them have moved past their old lives. Will changed his name and made something of his self while Mercy is striving to make a better life for herself in the pet sitting business. Her goal is to expand the business, earn a much needed bonus, and move out of the really run-down apartment that she lives in to somewhere better. Will is not looking for a relationship, but he doesn't want to hurt Mercy either. He knows that she has been through a lot of crap and he wants to see better things happen for her. He also wants to stop his grandmother from stealing a diamond dog collar because he doesn't want to see another family member end up in jail. When the collar gets stolen, Mercy quits her job blaming herself for it having gotten stolen. But wait!!!! Will won't let Mercy take the fall and it is so sweet!!!!! I love it! Will is a good man and he is falling for Mercy. Have mercy is very heavy on emotion and have mercy is it a winner! 5 stars!

solid romantic suspense

Businessman Will Desmond brings his faithful canine Buster with him while staying at Manhattan's exclusive Hush Hotel. The hotel's pet concierge Mercy Jones assumes pampering pets is ridiculous, but does her job as a professional hiding her inner disdain from the owners. Will is attracted to Buster's temporary handler, but has plans that he believes Mercy is key for his achieving them; although the walks in Central park with her and Buster as chaperone has him reconsidering his objective. At the same time bitter Drina Dalakis checks into the hotel. The angry Romanian Gypsy seeks vengeance on those whose actions led to the arrest and death of her husband. Her target is at the Hush Hotel where an expensive dog collar will begin her scheme. Romantic suspense fans will fully appreciate this action-packed story line that never slows down for even a bark once Buster introduces Will to Mercy even after she learns the truth as to who he really is. With a fabulous twist to spice up the tale of the dog collar, fans will enjoy this fine tale as Will finds out love cannot supersede his lies because trust is more important in a relationship and his beloved believes he can lie faster than a blink.
