Book Overview

The world of golf is rife with unexplainable happenings that seemingly defy the rules of gravity and logic: There are those badly hit shots last seen disappearing into a grove of trees, only to be rediscovered on the putting green. And what of those perfectly struck drives that rocketed into the crisp blue beyond never to be seen again? Players have learned to lay blame on "the Golf Gods," and go about their rounds.

What Came First, the Haunting or the Course?

Take into account that this reviewer is not a golfer and only holds the most minimal knowledge about the game and only a little more about the major players. That said, this is a great book for everyone, be they ghost hunters, golf enthusiasts, historians, travelers or readers of esoterica. The title of the book is accurate in that it not only covers haunts of a more traditional kind, it also focuses on specific players and how the game itself may have a more supernatural feel during the course of their lives. While this may seem to make for an uneven flow as you read a truly chilling tale, an incredible tragedy and then a lengthy, but nonetheless entertaining view of Greg Norman's wild career, in final retrospect, they all fit the book. A recommended book for everyone that you will enjoy. You will come away with a sense that golf is something special, even if it is just a ghost in a room somewhere above the club bar.

And I thought my golf game was Scary !

Looking for a different take on golf? This book is a very compelling history of golf, love, and true life. I am usually bored with the typical "how to....improve your golf game" books. Mr. Pioppi gives a unique view, behind the scenes look of golf courses and strange happenings. Real stories and fun to read while waiting for the slow players in front of you to get off the course. After reading this book, I now have the strange feeling some ghosts may be hindering my shots or why I can not find my ball in the clearing???
