13 year old Brian was visiting his mom at an airport. Before Brian left on his visit to see his father, his mother gave him a steel hatchet. After they took off, the man flying the jet had a heart attack and died. Brian tried to drive the plane and landed in an L shaped lake. He was stranded with a hatchet and very little supplies in the northern wilds. Weak with hunger and thirst he was alone. The longer Brian stays the stronger he becomes and more dangerous the wild. How will Brian survive...will he survive? The author, Paul Haulsen, made the story feel like I was there in the wild. I felt hunger or full when Brian was. When I was finished with this book I didn't want the story to end. It was constantly exciting! Iwas in luck. There are two more books: Brian's Winter and Brian's Return is based on The Hatchet. The Hatchet is one of my favorite and best books I ever read. I always wondered what it was like being stranded in the wild and now I know. I recommend this book for age 10 and up. Happy reading and watch out for the wild animals!
This book is about friends and war

I like this book because it seemed like it was real. I gave two books to my best friend and now I figured out some of them are out of stock. The whole series is great.
