The First Bible I REALLY Read
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 21 years ago
I love this Bible and a year later am still very excited with it. It's easy to read, and even includes in the beginning of each book/chapter HOW you should read that particular book with things to look for. People you'll meet in reading that book are introduced and you're given references for where to find more about them. There are lots of little features where a verse will be disected and explained and many extra stories that give you the interesting details behind some of the Biblical characters. It's a million times easier to understand than a KJV. This is the first Bible I've been able to sit down and read and don't want to put it down. It's just much easier to understand. If you have had a hard time reading the Bible, try this one.

This is the first Bible I've ever purchased for myself, after careful deliberation between many different versions. I found the Access Bible the best balance between pure, dry scholarship and completely evangelical footnotes that I don't feel comfortable with. The Access Bible has helpful full-color maps, a small concordance in the back, and an index. What I find most helpful, however, are the notes sprinkled throughout the text that help me gain insight into the way people thought and behaved in the time that Scripture was written. I recommend this Bible for any thoughtful believer who wishes to approach this most amazing and influential book with both spirit and mind fully engaged.
An excellent companion for reading sacred scripture

The Catholic Reader's Text Bible is an edition of the New Revised Standard Version, Catholic edition, containing the complete text of the ancient canon with the deuterocanonical books. The NRSV is possibly the finest bible in English, being a reliable, literal translation, yet highly readable and literary. This edition has several attractive features. 1) It contains a complete table of lectionary readings for Sundays and weekdays, so you can read the bible every day along with the whole church; 2) It has a treasury of Catholic Prayers and devotions; 3) it has a 99 page bible concordance; 4) it has family record pages to record baptisms and marriages; 5) it has a picture of Pope John Paul II on the presentation page; 6) and of course, the excellent NRSV text with Apocrypha/deuterocanonical books. The NRSV catholic edition is the text for the Canadian lectionary. It carries the imprimatur of both the Canadian and U.S. Catholic Bishops, and is quoted in the English version of the Catechism of the Catholic church. This Catholic reader's text edition by Oxford is Anglicized (e.g., "Saviour" for "Savior"). This is the finest bible for Catholics, and an excellent choice for all Christians.

There are other translations that improve accuracy and are more readable, but the King James Version is some of the most beautiful literature ever. The Truth found in its pages is the most liberating you could find.
Excellent Bible for teenagers and adults new to Bible study.

This is the best study Bible for young people we have been able to locate. The NRSV translation is easy to read and is accurate to the original text. I highly recommend this Bible to anyone working with teenagers or for anyone new to Bible study. p.s. A previous review says this Bible is out of print. That is not correct.
