extraordinary book

Peter Moss, attorney, takes another suite against Dr. Bondurant after already losing the last case against him. This is a terrific book to read and stay on the edge of your seat. A woman in the last stage of breast cancer realizes that her doctor let her advance in her disease to the point of being terminal for his own selfish, sick reasons.Peter Moss is obsessed with winning this case against Bonderant and when I finished this book, I wanted to find Bonderant myself! It's hard for me to review a book like this because I don't want to give away any of the twisted story. All I can say is that the writing is very interesting and not too deep into the medical info to make the story hard to understand.I believe this is Kerr's first book and it is a winner. It's way out of my usual genre, but I was with a friend of mine that is a nurse and reads med/mysteries. I'm glad I bought this one and read it. In a nut shell: Asingle mom with terminal breast cancer hires an attorny to stop an incompitent(?)doctor sicko.Don't miss the chance to read this. It's different and very, very good.

Impossible To Put Down

An avid reader of all the courtroom and medical dramas, I found this book, the best I've read in some time. Thoroughly enjoyed his syle, characters and reality. A winner of a book - loved it - can't say enough good about Baine Kerr's writing. One of those books you are sorry to finish - it was that good!

Best Book I've Read In 8 Years!

Every once in a while a book that you don't expect a lot out of will knock your socks off. That is the way it was when I read Baine Kerr's Harmful Intent. Who the heck is Baine Kerr? I've never heard of him, but I can tell you that he is the most accurate and articulate legal fiction writer I have ever read. As a lawyer, I get sick of reading the same old plots with bad courtroom procedure over and over, but this one has to be read to be believed. I will be waiting in anticipation for Mr. Kerr's next novel and would strongly advise anyone who has ever dreamed of working on a major medical malpractice case to read this book because Kerr definitely knows his stuff. I wish I were able to give a bonus score to this one because it was that good.

The whole truth and nothing but

As a lawyer who has had to sit through so many books and movies that mangle the rules of evidence, I marvel when an author gets litigation right. Kerr lets you enter what he calls the "epistomology of a case" -- the legal constructs that hover in the abstract and must be applied to shifting facts and motives. The case is great; the case is full of doubt: the case as rollercoaster. He also lets you understand how the best trial lawyers have an economy of speech that distills reality to essential points. They know when not to object, what not to ask. What's more, his descriptions of the Vietnam war, Colorado nature, and, above all, the client's struggle with her illness, and her apotheosis, are moving and beautifully written. This book is more personal than Presumed Innocent and A Civil Action. It's truthful testimony, as if it were written under oath.

Mystery, deep characters and flawless legal technique

Having been a trial lawyer for 24 years, I love the drama and the life stories that unfold in a great case. This is the story of a great case and the life that four very strong characters bring to a malpractice trial. The characters have depth; and the techniques and persona of the lawyers, the experts and the judge all resonate with the truth that comes from experience. While I admit that the setting of this novel--in my home town of Boulder, CO--adds to the interest the story has for me, this is a fabulous book which builds to an astonishing conclusion. Buy it and read it. You will thank yourself for a long time. This is a very well written novel. And I look forward to Kerr's next one.
