"The most lovable duo since Frog and Toad." --Dav Pilkey, bestselling creator of Dog Man and Captain Underpants The funny and adorable New York Times bestselling kids graphic novel series starring happy-go-lucky, waffle-loving Narwhal and his somewhat cynical sidekick, Jelly. In this hilarious 5th book, Narwhal and Jelly spread some holiday cheer (and warm waffle pudding). Includes bonus fun facts Dive into three new stories about Narwhal's favorite time of the year It's the festive season in the world wide waters, and Narwhal is looking forward to cozying up with a good book, singing and partying with pod pals and enjoying some warm waffle pudding. But most of all Narwhal is excited about the arrival of the Merry Mermicorn According to Narwhal, she's part mermaid, part unicorn and completely mer-aculous Jelly is of course skeptical about the existence of the "Mira-Miny-What-A Corn" . . . even when he receives a mysterious present. It must be from Narwhal. Now Jelly has to get the perfect gift, but finding a present for someone as unique as Narwhal is no easy feat, even when you have six tentacles. How will Jelly ever come up with a whaley great gift for a best pal who spreads cheer all through the year?
I was so excited for this book and we loved it. My daughter saw it on the library pile when I picked it up and was ready to devour it in the car on the way home, but I made her wait for me! We really loved this gentle story and took turns reading for the characters, and we liked the little story that Narwhal makes with Jelly towards the end, it was so silly.
In this book, Jelly is a little grumpy about the cold water of winter, and Narwhal is excited and full of optimism about the Merry Mermicorn, who sometimes brings gifts, and is part mermaid and part unicorn. Jelly is skeptical, but then he receives a mysterious present. Narwhal is always full of optimism and positivity and Jelly is, well, not, but I love how they are friends and help balance each other out to a half glass of water - not half full or half empty.
We adore this series, and I can’t wait for more of it. It is perfect for a young child and beginning reader to take turns reading (much like Elephant and Piggie), but my 7-year old, who is a strong reader, still really enjoyed it.
