I discovered a copy of Hans Brinker while cleaning up after my grandfather's death. He was an avid reader! My problem is, that I, too, have no idea when, where, or what value this book may be? My copy is rather aqua with a little dutch boy on the front carry two buckets over his shoulders. In the background is a dutch girl (ice skating) and a windmill. Inside the paperback cover is printed, "Giant Junior Classics: HANS BRINKER" Mary Mapes Dodge, Books Inc. New York Many thanks for your help! pmuri@yahoo.com

In the novel "Hans Brinker" by Mary Mapes Dodge many things occured. The Brinker family was a poor family. The family contained a mother,a father,a son,and a daughter. The mothers name was Meitje, the fathers name was Raff who has been in a trance since his accident 10 years ago,the sons name was Hans, and the daughters name was Gretel. In this novel Mrs.Brinker has to make some very tough decisions. One of those decisions were if she wanted to let the doctors do surgery on Raff. This surgery would mean risking his life because he could die from the surgery. Well she let them do sugery on him and he made it through the surgery and he thought that he was back to the same day of his accident. Hans also had to make many decisions. Hans wanted new skates to enter in a race. He got in the race but helped a friend by letting him use his sting to hold the skate together. This meant that Hans had to drop out of the races. He cared about other before himself. If everyone was like Hans the world would be great. This book is filled with friendship and love. I would recemend this book to anyone who likes mystery and adventure.

This book was written for many of us to read. It not only set the scene with great discriptions Mary Mapes Dodge had a true heart for her characters. They came directly from her heart and you could tell that by just the first few discriptions of her characters. The novel tells great experiences of Hans Brinker and others that help him complete his two goals. He was pictured to me as the perfect character for all of is actions. This book is highly recommended by me to read.
