Hanger Volume 2 (The Nine Tails Threatens Zeroichi and Hajime)

Hanger continues with Zeroichi and Hajime on duty. However, Zeroichi is working double-time to ensure Hajime’s safety. Hajime argues with Zeroichi about not feeling like his partner. Despite their argument, Hajime still has to handle Zeroichi’s hunger. Later, Hajime runs into a disguised Byakuran and his Keeper, Zemu. Byakuran offers to take Hajime on a mission with them. Hajime takes them up on their offer without Zeroichi knowing. During their mission, Byakuran loses some of his blood which contains rare “Type Two” nano machines designed to take control of other Druggers’ nano machines. It is then that Hajime realizes the physical gap between all Hangers and their Keepers and the power of Hajime’s blood. When Zeroichi shows up, he tries to keep Byakuran’s mouth shut, but it doesn’t work. Byakuran reveals his final wish of death: He wants Hajime to kill him beautifully when the time comes. Zeroichi absolutely refuses Hajime’s idea to use his blood as a weapon. Later, Hajime reflects on his lack of arrests, the gap between Zeroichi and himself, and how Zeroichi compares Hajime to Akisato. A religious father playing with children interrupts Hajime’s thoughts. The father gives Hajime some advice on love. At the same time, Hashima and Hibiki inform Zeroichi about The Nine Tails’ return—the group that killed Zeroichi’s former Keeper, Akisato. All the Hangers and Keepers of Squad 4 are called into a room to discuss the capture of The Nine Tails. Prior to the meeting, Hibiki thanks Hajime for his help from Volume 1 and notifies Hajime about Zeroichi’s lousy attitude. While Onukita is discussing the meeting details, Hanger Gaido interrupts and makes some cold-hearted comments. Onukita reveals the case fact about the weird reaction with Druggers' nano machines within 1 kilometer of the bombing site. An image shows a member of The Nine Tails, and Hajime vaguely recognizes him—the father from earlier. The Hanger that captures The Nine Tails will have 100 years taken off their sentence. Gaido challenges Zeroichi for the fun of it and mocks Akisato. Zeroichi throws fists until Hajime stops him. Zeroichi vows to murder every last member of The Nine Tails. Therefore, he attempts to dissolve his partnership with Hajime to protect him. Hajime won’t hear any of it and keeps Zeroichi as his partner. When the two head home, Zeroichi reveals how Akisato died and how Zeroichi feels guilty. Hajime comforts Zeroichi and promises him that he will not die. In the morning, Hajime is in shock when he finds himself in the same bed as Zeroichi. Zeroichi kisses Hajime in the night and morning, catching Hajime off guard. Zeroichi feels numb after the kiss and thoroughly researches the effects of Hajime’s fluids on a Hanger. It is then that Zeroichi finally acknowledges Hajime as his partner. Speaking of partners, Hajime literally bumps into Gaido’s partner and Keeper Yuki. Although Hajime’s first impressions of Gaido were terrible, Yuki speaks highly of Gaido and his strength. Unfortunately, Gaido doesn’t feel the same way about Yuki. If anything, Gaido considers Yuki to be a pain, a weakling. When Yuki shares his wonderful memories of when they first met, Gaido shoots him down and leaves. Meanwhile, Zeroichi and Hajime examine all the evidence they have on The Nine Tails and make plans to capture them. Hashima and Hibiki join them to discuss their future plans and Gaido’s history. Hashima and Hibiki will take their time capturing criminals and become lovers once Hashima’s sentence ends. Hajime gets flustered when the two lovers get curious about his relationship with Zeroichi. But the love will have to wait because Zeroichi and Hajime are about to encounter members of The Nine Tails. They will have to team up with Gaido to save Yuki, who was kidnapped by the gang—the same gang creating monsters and using their own people to blow up buildings and release their Type Two nano machines.
