My students love this book!

From an instructor's perspective, this is a great book. I've used this book for a year now with different classes. If the classroom file-server and lab are set up properly, it works very well. If you're looking for a quick and dirty exam prep book, this is NOT the book for you! If you really want to learn NetWare 5 administration in an instructor-led hands-on environment - get this book! The book has each student set up and administer a small company. It covers the design and implementation of the directory tree, users and groups, file structure, security, printing, and a host of other areas. The author includes several hands-on activities as well as projects. Each chapter builds on the previous chapter, so you can't skip around. He leads the student step-by-step through the projects and then slowly "weans" them from the "hand-holding". The projects require the instructor to set up a classroom file-server. Although the book could be used in a self-paced fashion, I've found it to be much more effective to lecture on the subject at hand then turn the students loose to do the projects. Several students with no previous NetWare experience have been able to pass the CNA test as a result of using this book.I've asked my students on many occasions how they like the book and always get a positive response. I read the _ONE_ very negative review of this book and was very perplexed. Either I've totally missed the boat or the other reviewer was talking about a different book! He said the book caused confusion - without proper instruction and preparation, NetWare IS confusing, but this book is NOT confusing. Perhaps the instructor hadn't bought into or didn't understand the methodology of the author. The weakest area in the book is the review questions. All the answers are within the text, but the questions are sometimes vague and open to different interpretations. But overall, I like the book... it has made my job alot easier!
