Great book on RDBMS

I purchased this book because it was a mandatory reference in database course. This contains lots of fundamental concepts of relational database. It is a well-organized book starting from LDM rules then to RDD rules with tons of practical examples. The authors does a very good job in explaining and clarifying all the essences, even a trivial point is made clear. This is a must-have for all of you who have to deal with relational database.

The Best Intro RDBMS Book

This is the best intro RDBMS book out there. It explains everything you need to know to design a database. It isn't vendor documentation and isn't trying to be. There are some areas that would benefit from a second edition but nothing in it is patently "wrong" or "out-dated."

Great book - is prime for a second edition

This is a great book. It is detailed and well written. It offers almost total immersion in the subject. There are no "cute" editorial distractions from the subject and the authors are direct in their approach. Although the concepts presented are still sound, it would be nice to see a second edition to keep pace with the current IT environment. Great read.

The only book you'll ever need on logical database design.

I adopted this as the text for graduate MIS courses in database design/logical data modeling almost 10 years ago. Still the best working reference on relational databases from logical design through physical issues on indexes, tuning, etc. The only reference book I recommend to anyone needing to understand relational database design. M.C. Kettelhut, Ph.D.

The best on REAL relational design

The core information in this book is as valid as it has ever been, even if it's 10 years old. The rules are really very simple, but are almost never followed in practice. This book served as the reference for my first really large database design project, and at its conclusion, we had the most stable, thoroughly documented, and good performing database my company had ever produced. It wasn't magic, it was just following the steps methodically, especially the emphasis on capturing business rules. It's just the best.
